Mike Tiemann, large group director for 252 Kids at The reThink Group, joins host, Kristen Ivy, to talk about how to instill confidence — yet maintain humility — in kids in today’s episode of the Parent Cue Live podcast.
- Reinforce to your kids that they matter. Affirm your kids regularly, reminding them God has a unique purpose for their lives and that He thinks highly of them. These conversations are ones they will recall for a lifetime.
- Fit confidence conversations into your family’s natural rhythm. Whether it’s in the carpool line or during down time on the weekends, take some time to talk to your kids about their identity in God and participate in worship together as a family.
- Find one way to affirm your kids every day. Your kids need to hear how awesome they are from the people who mean the most to them — their parents! They’ll live a life of abundance when they know they are loved.
All of us parents want to raise kids who are confident in who they are and not easily swayed by others’ opinions of them, yet most of us have no idea where to start.
These days, everywhere you turn seems to be a measuring stick for how successful our kids are.
How do they fare on their sports team at school?
What are their test taking abilities like and where do they rank among their classmates?
How many Bible verses can they recite off the top of their heads?
Social media even reinforces the idea that perception is everything — the more likes we get on our posts, the better we feel about ourselves, right?
Mike Tiemann, large group director for 252 Kids at The reThink Group, says the essence of confidence isn’t so much about our abilities as it is our identity. Confidence comes when our kids know who they are through God’s eyes and that they were created for a unique purpose.
In today’s episode, Mike and host, Kristen Ivy, share ways to identify a lack of confidence in our kids, how to properly explain to our kids the root of their identity, and what it truly means to live fully alive. There’s also a special giveaway of Mike’s nine-week devotional, Amped, at the end of today’s episode, so stay tuned!
